ROS’s Better Bones campaign receives a high commendation at the PR Week UK Awards

The Royal Osteoporosis Society (ROS) has been awarded a high commendation in the Public Affairs category at this year’s PR Week UK Awards.

The prestigious ceremony, which recognises game-changing campaigns and the outstanding achievements made by PR professionals from across the country, was held at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House London on 16 October.

The commendation was given in recognition of the charity’s Better Bones campaign with the Sunday Express, which called for universal access to Fracture Liaison Services (FLS), the gold standard for identifying, assessing and treating anyone who breaks a bone after the age of 50.

Prior to the campaign, only half of NHS trusts in England and Wales had an FLS due to a brutal postcode lottery. 

The campaign successfully secured the biggest policy change in history for people living with osteoporosis when the previous Health Secretary, Victoria Atkins, promised in Parliament to extend FLS to all 42 Integrated Care Systems in England by 2030 – a commitment that has since been reiterated by Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Wes Streeting.

“Receiving the backing of both main parties of Government leading up to the general election proved that osteoporosis deserves a place at the top of the public health agenda.
