Thanks to the generosity and involvement of our members, volunteers and supporters, we took our biggest strides yet towards beating osteoporosis in 2024.
This really was the year that the silence around osteoporosis broke forever, as we demonstrate in our Annual Report Highlights.
In a breakthrough moment, we secured a cross-party commitment to roll-out early diagnosis services, called Fracture Liaison Services or FLS, across every NHS Trust in England by 2030. When the rollout is finished, we’ll prevent 74,000 fractures over five years, including 31,000 life-threatening hip fractures.
Our two high-profile media partnerships – the Sunday Express’s Better Bones campaign and the Mail on Sunday’s War on Osteoporosis campaign – galvanised the support of 271 Parliamentarians.
We made a long-term research commitment to proving the case for the world’s first national screening programme.
Since Her Majesty The Queen launched our Risk Checker, 435,000 people have checked their risk and 56,000 of them have got an early diagnosis.
When the NHS falls short, our support services will always provide a lifeline. And they’ve had their busiest year yet, with over two million engagements.
None of this would be possible without our members and supporters. It means the world to us that we have your backing to change and improve lives together.
